PERSONALITY: my hot takes.

• obsessed with one brief shining happy moment in her childhood (daddy said he loved her!) and clings to that
• this cling effect essentially makes her overly focused on the throne when she could be doing other things that could bring her joy
• her tunnel vision and inability to let go of slights and lack of interest in learning and difficulty taking advice, hmm, would a good ruler do this? [sick kickflips]
• PSYCH its not about who would be a good ruler, good rulers aren't possible in a monarchial system anyway I refuse to engage w that bs
• let's instead focus on how rhae lies to herself constantly about her happiness, about her goals, about her ambitions and dreams, because all of it's funneled into expanding upon one moment of happiness in her childhood that was not actually that unhappy but she's convinced was, actually, very unhappy because she didn't get everything she wanted and refuses to compromise
• the sad thing is that rhaenrya is capable of empathy and worrying about the smallfolk and stopping and forgiving, but those are small emotions in the ecology of her heart, and anger and desire for vengeance and the need to feel politically important shout them down



• genuinely loves her kids tho. this does not stop her from using them as chess pieces. sees this as tragic but inevitable. yk like her dad did
• sees herself as 'fated' to marry her uncle because that's normal
• genuinely loved harwin but really REALLY loved that he couldn't say shit to her. is love possible between people who aren't equals and who have no interest in being equals? idk man but its hard. i cannot tell you if she would have felt so strongly for harwin if he like, challenged her on shit
• genuinely loves daemon but that shit is messy and abusive. personally, I prefer to see it as violent on both sides-- I bet she smacks him and they get into ugly slap fights. this does not mean she 'deserves' his abuse / grooming. i just can't see her always taking it lying down, though I believe in some moments she calculates that it's better to let it lie. sometimes your husband strangles you after you just gave birth and you're tired. WOW he's so passionate tho love that!!! she has rose-tinted glasses for him sometimes and is consumed with bitterness other times-- her feelings for him are very complex and multilayered.
• yes she did rape cole, no she wasn't aware of it because her centralizing herself as the victim of all Gender Problems means she actually assumes a lot of basically wild shit about how men work. liiiiiike. like it was an authority thing, he felt he wasn't allowed to say no and was rhaenyra aware of that? who knows. but probably on some level she expected him to follow orders and that was an order. she doesn't think of it as rape because men can't be raped what are you talking about also he had fun he got off it's fine. why is he so bitter at her later. ugh men amirite
• not a ~misandrist~ she actually loves men and is obsessed w masculinity. she would be more actively masculine if she felt it wouldn't hurt her chances as heir. would love to pull a brienne but doesn't feel like she can + straight up not being allowed to as a child means she missed out on some prime muscle development time.
• rhaenyra is probably somewhere on the repressed bisexual spectrum-- women are just so pretty and cool and fierce and sexy it would be cool if she was a dude so she could fuck them! but alas!!!! she thinks her position as heir would be damaged if she had fish tacos and lbr it would be. so she prefers not to think about it.
• which is to say yes she's in love with alicent obviously. but as we have seen all of her expressions of love are through the language of power, and she can't directly exert any power over alicent nor can alicent directly assert power over her so it becomes this bitter broken poisonous thing on top of all the memories and slights and childhood fuckups that caused it in the first place I mean cmon

I love plot, I love plotty bullshit, I love AUs*, I will come up with plot stuff if you don't want to essentially GM a thread, but if you do that's cool too!

I'm a big tragedy enjoyed and have no problem with making Rhae suffer.

You wanna pretend she was married off to xyz? You want them to be stranded in the wilderness? You wanna do some other wild shit? I'm down. I don't feel the need to be deeply tied to what happens or is possible in the show / books.

* However, I'm not super big on AUing into different canons entirely, or taking Rhae out of the ASOIAF universe / westeros. Rhaenyra is most interesting to me within her political and social context of Westeros, as a perverse echo of Empress Matilda who through bitterness and pride is going to bring about massive instability. I'm bored of modern AUs and don't care for coffee shops or harry potter.

I love violence and am down for fights. I am cool with character death. I am fine with screaming matches and drama. Let's shoot for the moon here.

In general, I am less interested in swoony romance and more interested in intense, freaky, problematic ships for this character, because she brings her own damage and is extremely strrrrange about relationships due to dynastic bullshit giving her an incredibly warped view of relationships to begin with. she's problematic and will actively make things more problematic!

would love to explore more of the push and pull with her marriage to daemon, which I feel is a lovely breeding ground of all my interests. i do think they love each other I do think he groomed her, I think both things can be true when both of them have very unusual definitions of 'love'. she enjoys his intensity and is willing to deal with his violence to an extent, though I DO think she fights back sometimes. their relationship should be tempestuous and wild and tender and hurtful, with their power hungriness causing both of them to act out in wild ass ways. it should be weird! let's get weird
